Was The Wait Worth It For The Motorola Droid 2

Written by wifr

As the mid to late August release date for the Motorola Droid 2 nears, more details continue to leak out about Verizon’s latest Droid product. Though much of the information shows more of the same from Motorola’s latest installment of their Droid phone, there are still those significant improvements that should be mentioned. While the OS may see a remodel, the overall the look and feel of this phone should be very familiar to current Droid 1 users.

Although there hasn’t been an official release date for Motorola’s Droid 2 yet, Best Buy has apparently received in shipments of Motorola Droid 2 accessories. Pictures have surfaced of Motorola Droid 2 cases pre-packaged and ready for sale. No word on whether or not the Motorola Droid 2 screen protectors are the same as the Droid 1, though the screen size and shape appear to be essentially the same. The beveled edges on the Droid 2 do make it unlikely that your current Droid 1 case will fit the sleeker front on the new Motorola. So those interested in purchasing the new Droid 2 should want to get Motorola Droid 2 cases, specifically for that model.

Leaked documents show that the Droid 2 will come preloaded with the 2.2 Froyo operating system and will also be running the version of MotoBlur that is currently active on Motorola’s Droid X product. Documents also show that the Droid 2 will contain 8GB internal memory as well as an 8GB SD card, instead of the 16GB SD card of the Droid 1. The Droid 2 will be running on the same Texas Instruments 1GHZ processor that the Droid X is currently sporting. The keyboard for the Droid 2 seems slightly larger. The D-pad has been replaced with arrow keys, and the slider keyboard keys have a slightly more raised feel to them, addressing some of the concerns users had about the first Motorola Droid. The Droid 2 also seems slightly less boxy as the edges have more of a beveled look to them.

Now for those things that have stayed the same. The camera is the same 5MP dual flash model that you saw with the Droid 1. It still has a slider keyboard as expected. The screen is the same 3.7” size that seems somewhat less impressive after the extreme 4.3” screen of the Droid X. There is no HDMI port and no 720 video as with the Droid X. It does take away the overlay on the right side of the phone making it centered with the keyboard, however most users will be hard pressed to tell the difference between the original Droid and the Droid 2 at a glance or even in their hands.

Even though sales of this phone are likely to be high and it does improve in performance over the original Droid, it is still uncertain whether this new version will be worth an immediate upgrade from the Droid 1. Those who were hoping for a few more goodies with this newer version may choose to go with theDroid X or to hold out for more possible Droid releases later this year.

The Revolutionary MyTouch 3G Slide

Written by wifr

The new MyTouch 3G Slide is one of the most exciting smart phones released in recent months by technology and communications giant T-Mobile. The 3G Slide is a conservative choice for the average phone consumer who are not interested in obtaining a phone with overly complex technology. The myTouch 3G Slide comes packed with a variety of features to satisfy both new and established smart phone users, including Google’s new Android 2.1 operating system and a physical keyboard. However, it also supports a range of add-ons designed to let consumers get the most out of their smart phone purchase, and MyTouch 3G Slide accessories like cases and screen protectors are a good way to extend the capabilities of the phone. The MyTouch 3G Slide feels like a safe and durable phone in your hands. At 4.6 inches long and weighing 5.8 ounces, this phone is easy and convenient to take around with you. However, MyTouch 3G Slide cases are still a good idea, as you never know when you might accidentally drop your smart phone while on the go.

One of the best features of the Slide is the included qwerty keyboard. While more and more smart phones manufacturers today have chosen to do away with the physical keyboard for the virtual keyboard on touch screens, the Slide sticks to the tried and true physical keyboard. The keys are conveniently laid out, making the keyboard easy to use and reducing the risk of errors. But for those who elect to transition to a virtual keyboard, they can activate it on the 3G Slide and type in portrait or landscape mode at their convenience. Above the physical keyboard is the Slide’s 3.4 inch touch screen. The screen is both clear and bright and offers an HVGA resolution, which is a good offering for a beginner’s smart phone. The responsive screen also offers support for pinch to zoom features. It’s always recommended you purchase a screen protector for your myTouch 3G Slide from retail stores or online vendors.

Beyond the QWERTY keyboard and the touch screen, another bonus of the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide is that runs on Google’s Android Operating System. This is the newest iteration of the operating system Google offers, but when Android 2.2 (Froyo) becomes available later in the year, it will prove easy to update the Slide through Wi-Fi.. The current version offers more than enough features for all but the most demanding smart phone users, including a full HTML web browser, numerous Google services such as mail and maps, as well as speech to text.

Quality And Strength For Motorola Cell Phones

Written by wifr

As Motorola Cell Phones try to perfect their cellular devices, the Motorola Razr is a cell phone made just for your needs. Its light weight and comfortable dialing pad makes it easy for anyone to use! Although the Razr is not equipped with a keyboard, text messaging and surfing the web can be a very comfortable experience on these GSM Cell Phones. The absence of the keyboard gives it its light weight slick design. Because of its light weight, chatting on the cell phone is no longer a problem! With the Razr there is no need to worry about calls dropping out on the bridge or in the basement. Although the quality of the call typically depends on the server you choose to use (Sprint, AT&T etc.), the phone you choose can make a great difference.

The Razr may not be loaded with tons of applications and a touch screen, but it makes up for it with the quality of the calls. Usually a phone company relies and completely depends on their connection towers to help fertilize them, but unfortunately if the towers are filled up with too much frequency traffic it’s much more difficult just to receive a phone call. If you’ve ever been dropped during an important business call or an important conversation with a relative, you know how annoying this can be. Phone quality can make all the difference between getting that job interview or not.

The Razr is one of the most ubiquitous clamshell form factor phones in the world ever. First introduced back in 2003, they were an instant hit as Razrs provided basic cell phone services for users on lower-rate calling plans. These handsets were also provided free or at a very, very low cost, further fueling their popularity. As advantageous as it may seem, they also has the strength to take a lot of damage without inflicting actual fractures internally.

At time, Razrs were quite fashionable, as they were very slim for their time (they are still fairly thin, all things considered), and Motorola and partnered carriers marketed them as exclusive electronics for a while. Over fifty million units were sold by the beginning of fiscal year 2006, and by 2007, after four years on the market, over a hundred and ten million. This milestone placed Motorola second only behind Nokia, and the phone made honorable mentions in many magazine surveys of the decade’s electronics.

The Razr2 was the successor, with improved sound quality and an external touchscreen. Unfortunately, this model was judged too derivative, with Motorola failing to advance the state of the art in cellular communications. Thus the Razr line declined as a new generation of touchscreen smartphones from competitors gained increasing market share. Motorola reacted by slashing prices on what was once billed as a premium luxury handset, but this only lead to heavy losses for its mobile division from which it has yet to fully recover.

Widespread Use Of Palm Treo Cell Phones

Written by wifr

Cell phones throughout the world are beginning to get more and more technical due to added features and competitions. The Palm Treo Cell Phones, for example, now have the capability of downloading more apps and games making GSM Cell Phones harder to choose. It’s gotten to the point where the New York City public school system has banned them. Long a hotly contested issue, the move forced the matter into the top of the public’s awareness: do kids really need cell phones, anyway?

Of course, the safety benefits of keeping in touch are undeniable. No parent would agree to giving up the ability to contact their child at anytime, practically anywhere. But the problem, obviously, is that kids, being kids, do not use cell phones simply to stay in touch with mom and dad! Today’s cell phones are so capable that they are often called “smartphones,” or convergence devices that combine media players for music and video with mobile gaming consoles, not to mention web browsing and texting.

Indeed, it may well be that widespread use of texting during class that served as the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back: no longer was there any piece of paper that had to be passed along from desk to desk, but trading notes was easier than ever – and more concealable than ever – thanks to miniaturized smartphones: students simply “thumb” their messages from under the desk or behind a book, and these miniature devices are easy to hide or password-lock!

And the question stands, how old should children be before receiving their own cell phones?

The question may be a moot one, as cell phones are no longer about security for kids. With so many of their peers sporting one, or even two or three, cell phones have become a something that feels like a part of childhood now, like bicycles. But parents should still be aware of the potential for misuse and even abuse – and not only by their kids, but others as well.

First of all, however, is the matter of security – of the property, that is. Kids are notorious for losing things, but losing a cell phone can be quite dangerous for the sensitive personal information often stored on the devices. A lost cell phone will contain not only the kid’s address, but likely also contacts for the parents, such as the addresses of their workplaces. Lost cell phones probably also have photos and other personal memorabilia on them, all kinds of information that may be used in identity theft – or worse. Responsible parents will make sure their kids are responsible with their cell phones, starting with the not losing of it!

Ultimately, of course, there is only so much control a parent can exert over his or her children, and judging by popular consensus, it is much better for kids to have a means of communications than to not have one. This way they can keep track of what they do and most probably build a connection to their families that they could not have if they never had a cell phone.

Cell Phones With No Contract Are Becoming Ever More Popular

Written by wifr

Cell phones with no contract are the only mobile handsets worth purchasing almost everywhere you can look. This way, you get to keep using the phone you’re familiar with, where all your contact information and other personal data are stored. Otherwise, your phone could be rendered inoperable when you decide to switch service providers. Yes, the telecommunications companies are that devious! It’s actually standard practice in the industry for a wireless carrier to deliberately “lock” your phone so that it will only work on their cellular networks. But it’s your phone; you paid for it; why shouldn’t you get to choose who ought to provide the service for you?

That’s why Cell phones with no contracts are so popular. After all, where’s the sense in going wireless but still being tied down and held back by onerous contract terms and obscure legalese? With wireless that’s also contractless, you get real freedom of choice and convenience. Now the wireless providers will claim in their defense that they need to lock those phones bought through them because such products are heavily subsidized. This is a valid point. No one imagines for a moment that they would go bankrupt otherwise, but from a business point of view it does make sense. However that does not stop the customer’s free will to choose any phone in their best opinion.

As consumers, however, we needn’t play that game. Getting “your own phone,” one that’s “truly” yours, also makes sense in many important ways. There’s already the aforementioned factor of being able to switch carriers. Perhaps equally important as that is the fact that some features could be disabled on a “company handset,” one bought through a service provider, usually when you sign up for service. Sometimes it’s a case of certain features not being available because the telco doesn’t support them, but other times a feature is disabled no matter who you take your business to.

But what if you already have a company handset? Depending on the kind of phone you have, you may still be able to “unlock” it. Sometimes it will require special hardware and must be sent in for service, but in other cases all that would be required is the input of a special code into the handset. Whatever the case, the expenses involved are extremely modest and well worth it. You will be able to enjoy tremendous savings as you switch carriers, depending on which one offers you the most for your dollars while not having to relearn a new phone, not to mention re-enter all your data all over again! There are far more reasons, without a shadow of a doubt, to back up cell phones with no contracts, it is not everyone’s choice but they won’t know unless they actually try one out perhaps.

Wireless Internet Access

Written by wifr

It is surprising that some 20 years after first commercial use of the internet we are now entirely dependent of it. This dependence in many cases evolves into addiction. There are numerous popular services that we are using on a daily basis. Facebook, Gmail, and Twitter are only few popular names that wouldn’t exist without internet.

First home access to the internet was via modems and telephone infrastructure. At that time speeds were sufficient for websites and services that were available. The next step was replacement of modems with xDSL technology which significantly increased the range of available bandwidths. The latest approach is using fiber cables to get the fastest internet speeds in individual homes. 1 GBit/s is now reality for anybody having the possibility to connect to the optical network.

Another technology that evolved in parallel with wired access was, of course, wireless access to the internet. The most common technology today in use is Wi-Fi which allows speeds over 100 Mbit/s. All you need for a wireless access is an access point (usually a wireless router) and WiFi enabled laptop or any computer with wireless network card.

For average user there is probably no big difference between these two ways to access the internet. However, there are some very important aspects that need to be taken into account when deciding which technology to use.

Wired access provides constant bandwidth between individual user and internet service provider. It is mainly the bandwidth of the ISP’s backbone which determines actual speed that we will be able to achieve. Wired access enables permanent connection. This is important when you need reliable connection which should be also available from the outside. Static IP address is normally used for such purposes and if the connection is important it is also powered by an UPS.

The main difference of wireless internet access is that it uses a radio channel to transfer data. This channel has limited capacity which is usually shared among many users. Even if there are many channels available the total bandwidth that we can get depends also on the number of users and their transfers. In general, this is an additional bottleneck for our access to the internet. Another important difference is that the connection is not permanent. When it is established there is no guarantee that is will stay as it is. The situation in the radio frequency spectrum can change, other users may start using the same access point, slight change of antenna position may significantly decrease connection speed, etc.

One typical example of a device that can successfully use wireless link is a portable credit card terminal. It enables credit card processing away from the office or counter. Portable credit card terminals significantly simplify making business and allow buyers to keep their credit cards in their hands.

In many cases you can use either wired or wireless access. But there are also cases which imply reliable wired connection or wireless access at any cost. Wireless connections can also be a target of eavesdropping. Even with security measures you can not be sure that nobody listens to the traffic. Of course, with strong encryption algorithms traffic decoding is almost impossible.
